My January Musical Highlights

The first month of 2011 is almost over and if the rest of the year carries on like this it will be a spectacular year for new music! Here are a few videos from the albums I’ve heard this month that have had me coming back to them repeatedly.

Wire – Red Barked Tree
Up until this week I had only heard the old Wire albums, Pink Flag, Chairs Missing and 154, I had never bothered investigating their newer stuff but had heard praise for this new one so thought I’d check it out on Spotify. I’m glad I did!

Amplifier – The Octopus (reviewed here)

The Joy Formidable – The Big Roar
Welsh trio finally release their debut album, and it’s full of big tunes! I am planning on doing a review of it in the next few days.

The Decemberists – The King is Dead
It may have lost a lot of the grandeur of their previous releases lyrically and musically, but the back to basics song writing has worked and this is a pleasant hum-along listen.

The Soft Moon – The Soft Moon
Investigated this after reading the praise lauded onto it on the DiS message boards. Still need to give it more time, but I am really liking the noise it makes! (Spotify)
