Eluvium – Indoor Swimming at the Space Station
A third of the way there folks!
I felt this category could be looked at in two ways, the bad; a song that bores me so much I fall asleep, or the good; a song that relaxes and soothes me to the point where I drop off. I am going to choose the good, ‘cos I’m a positive chap like that, and I can’t actually think of a song so boring that it makes me fall asleep instead of just turning it off! It therefore did not take me long to pick the album “Copia” by Eluvium.
There are certain albums that seem deliberately made to listen to on headphones, and further, albums that seem deliberately made to listen to on headphones, at night. The Burial album I mentioned in my Day 6 post is one of them and “Copia” is right up there at the top of choices to send me off to the land of nod.
The problem with this however, is that I very rarely get to listen to the whole album before I’m asleep, or at least dozing, I don’t think I’ve got past half way before the effort to stay awake to listen is just too much and it’s switched off, earphones out and I’m gone, zzzzzzzzzz! I chose this track for the post because as it is only track 2 on the album, I always get to hear it!
The sounds, distant voices and drifting melody are just so soothing it’s like aural tranquilisers, a track (and indeed, album) almost guaranteed to de-stress you after a hectic day*. For me there is also enough melody in the drone to keep me happy, the other album of his that I have, “Talk Amongst The Trees” I just tend to find a bit tedious.
*I take no responsibility if you don’t find it restful and relaxing, you’re clearly just weird. 🙂

Probably most things from the Damien Rice album ‘O’. Cannonball?
