The original list of categories has this one down as “A song you want to play at your funeral”, that would freak people out I would imagine, hopping out of your coffin to pop a tune on!
Anyway, ahem, sombre tone if you please.
The first tune that cropped up for this category was “Host of Seraphim” by Dead Can Dance but then I thought that’s a bit grand and over the top, beautiful and spine-tingling as it is, it’s not as if a royal or a pope were dying or something! Next I thought of This Mortal Coil’s superior (imo) version of Tim Buckley’s “Song To The Siren” but again it’s a bit too overly grand and sad, although again extremely beautiful.
It’s a funeral, what’s more it’s mine, so it will be sad enough. I think we need a light hearted song here, and a more original choice than “My Way”, so, ladies and gentlemen I give you – The Night Marchers with “In Dead Sleep (I Snore zzzz)”! 😉

Hmm, what I’d want playing now would be very different from what I want when the time eventually comes, given the many years that (hopefully!) will have passed by then! However, one that I quite like at the moment and that is also appropriate is “Awake My Soul” by Mumford and Sons.
You may mock, but they’re good!
