A CD can hold 80 minutes of music, Volume 24 clocks in at 1hr20min, boom! Very pleasing! (this mix is slightly shorter because of the, er, mixing) Lots of other pleasures once play is pressed too, such as the wonderful opener from BoC, segueing rather nicely into the Cornelius track. An excellent Grumbling Fur track, 16 Horsepower’s great version of Bad Moon Risin’, the inimitable Fall’s cover of an obscure 1959 rock ’n’ roll tune and Gary Numan’s surprisingly good NINesque tune Love Hurt Bleed. Some lovely twinkly post rock from Do Make Say Think and the spine-tinglingly grandiose Dead Can Dance track (that will now forever be linked with the absolute gut punch ending of the movie The Mist!).
The CD finishes with what I now realise are three songs from three sadly departed artists who all died way too young (suicide, drinking and drowning respectively), I’m pretty sure I didn’t mean for such a downbeat ending, but to be honest Annette wouldn’t have known anything about any of them so it wasn’t a problem!
